Can we forgive Goldlink now please?

It was a personal letter of him expressing his feelings. He gave Mac credit. He called him special, he said Mac was the blueprint for rappers. He said he was proud of him and grateful for him. He also brought up a time he felt slighted. It was basically a friend explaining to another friend why they are upset (which is normal in healthy friendships), except the friend wasn’t here. Maybe that was a way for him to cope or release a resentment he’s had towards Mac. Idk, we all deal with grief differently. Just because a person passes away does not mean the hurt they’ve caused you or brought to you goes away too.

And for the people saying it was too soon. I promise if he posted that today in 2025 everyone would have about the same reaction. Like “bro it’s been years get over it”, “only a shit of a person would post this”.

I think the reason we have trouble letting go of this is because we pedestal-ize celebrities. We think they can do no wrong or be criticized because of how much of a fan we are. At the end of the day celebrities are human and no human is perfect. The nicest human can offend someone. That’s just life. Instead of viewing it as an attack, view it as someone grieving because that’s literally what it was. From what I saw online and heard from Mac’s music, his vibe was of someone who was laid back and introspective. He definitely would’ve wanted us to forgive Goldlink.

It feels like every other month I always come across something pertaining to Gold Link and without fail… it always leads back to Mac Miller. Someone posts their song of the day that happens to be Goldlink. Someone in the comment: “He’s his own downfall”. Someone posts an old snippet of him singing live. Someone in the comment: “Will never forget what he did to Mac”. And of course someone posts a What Happened to Goldlink video. Don’t even get me started on those comments. Those comments are the worst.

But like… can we please forgive him now? It’s been about 5 years. At this point it just feels like bullying. The comments I’ve seen on his page are disgusting. Which I don’t understand because the commenters calling Goldlink “a piece of shit human” But leaving disturbing comments that only a human who’s a piece of a shit would comment?

For those who don’t know or don’t remember what Goldlink did. Let me fill you in/remind you of what went down. Back in November 2019, about a year after Mac Miller’s death, Goldlink shared with social media an open letter he wrote to Mac Miller.
