I'm not gonna lie to you, the snippets I was hearing online, on social media, and from other people's reviews had me thinking, y’all are really gassing this up. He's your favorite artist, and y'all are kissing butt. But I took the time to stop being a hater and actually give it a listen... and it's not bad, not bad at all. It's good! At first, I was skipping around, thinking, yeah, this is trash, but then I fast-forwarded one of the songs and thought, hold on!!! This is good. This isn't an album you can just skip around; it's the type of album you have to listen to the whole way through because if you don't, it doesn't make sense, or the song doesn’t get better.
Introduction to Chromakopia
The album starts off with the track St. Chroma. A woman reminds me not to dim my light, followed by the sound of people stomping, and then Tyler starts whispering in my ear. Eventually, it drifts off into this beautiful melody with what I believe are vocals from Daniel Caesar. This song is a perfect example of why I said this isn't an album to just skip around on the first listen—at first, it didn’t make sense to me, but by the end, everything blended well and made sense.
This Album Feels Like a Scavenger Hunt
When we (the people) were first alerted about Tyler's new album, there was a lineup of people wearing masks, making them unidentifiable. So, I was expecting to see the featured artists’ names on the tracklist when I played each song on Spotify, but no—it all just says Tyler. This actually makes the album more fun, as I get to figure out who's singing, rapping, ad-libbing, and test my musical ear. Yes, I know there are probably websites listing the features, but I want to bask in the mystery.

Final Thoughts
To make it clear, this is a first listen, so I haven’t had time to deeply ponder the lyrics (honestly, not sure if I will after this). So, yeah, is Tyler, The Creator's new album Chromakopia really that good? The short answer is yes—if you’re open to exploring new sounds and themes. It encapsulates a phase in his life. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or someone just dipping their toes into Tyler’s world, this album has something for everyone. So connect those headphones—or if you're obsessed with wired headphones like me, plug them in—and give it a listen. It’s not my favorite, but I definitely like it better than the previous album (Call Me If You Get Lost from 2021—doesn’t even feel that long ago).
